So wait...um...what?

So liek, I thought I'd be helpful and volunteer for FanQ modship :D. This being back at like September 26th or something.

I get an email back (unfortunately I didn't save it. Bah) on October 7th or 8th saying that no, they don't need me because they already have enough volunteers, thanks anyway.

So I'm thinking, okay then, that's the same answer I've gotten like, all the other eleventy times I've ever volunteered, but I guess that's okay. I toddle on over to Elfwood to have a gander at that day's (Oct 8th) mod choices. And being the good Dino that I am, I read the news.

What does /that day's/ news say?

"Sat Oct 8 18:12:35 2005

Moderators
We have enough Wyvern and SF&F art volunteers at this point, but we're still in need of moderators for FanQuarter."

So was that email basically saying 'you suck lolz!' (aka: you don't fit the requirements for whatever reason, or we just don't like you for whatever reason to begin with)?
Naturally I was a bit miffed. If I didn't fit the requirements, why didn't they tell me WHY? So I could, you know, FIX IT.

So now I'm rather irritated at being lied to (is this anything new?) and going to throw a hissy-fit and tear down my galleries the next chance I get. Or something equally stupid and immature. Or not (because I'm a lazy ho).

I know...they always say they want help, but they really don't. The Mod's must a bunch of elitist scumbags. ;p
I get the sneaking suspicion that they only have one reject reason for people volunteering to moderate.

I think fanquarter is harder to get into than modding the other galleries though. Have you updated much since the crash? Because if not, there may simply not have been enough of your record for them to tell if you were qualified or not. Also I notice that you fanart gallery has a couple pictures which do not fit the quality guidelines for Elfwood (borders of paper showing in the scan). Even if they were uploaded before the rule change, I am pretty sure that moderators need to have everything in their gallery up to date on the quality rule. Supposedly they check your gallery, so it could have been something as simple as that.

Also if you've gotten any rejections something serious like copying, that would do it.

But yeah they really ought to tell you why. Especially if it has to do with your gallery because that is definitely something you can fix.
I actually update my main gallery about once a month (depending on how fast the ticket goes), and I just updated my FanQ gallery a couple months ago (I don't do as much fanart as 'normal' art, but I do try to justify my existance in fanq-land). ((also, I'll check the fanq gallery for the quality thing. I think at one time, I had those pictures in for the minimum number required or something, and I just haven't gotten around to re-checking them lately))

I remember one rejection two years ago being for not crediting someone who took a photo. And I think I've had one or two since then, but since I can't even remember what they were for or what pictures they were, they must just have been stupid mistakes.

Really, I'm not mad that they turned me down for modship. I'm mad that they have never told me why. I mean, how am I supposed to get better if nobody tells me what to improve? bah.
Yeah, I know. I think their rejection process is retarded myself. I really do suspect that they just have a "reject" button that coughs out a single form letter. Jeez if they have to take the time anyway to do a fuckin' background search on you, the least they could do is say, "hey this is why".

I'd say you could reply to the letter and ask why but I don't know that you'd get any kind of timely response.
Yeah, I would have, if I had been smart that day and not deleted the email instead.
I got a similar response and, like you, I'm confused as to why. Being turned down is not the biggest problem, it's that I don't even know why.
We should get our pitchforks ready, I tell ya.
